چکیده

In this work we describe a large new sample of contact binary stars extracted in a uniformmanner from sky patrol data taken by theROTSE-I telescope. ExtensiveROTSE-I light-curve data are combinedwith J-,H-, andK-band near-infrared data taken from theTwoMicronAll Sky Survey to add color information. Contact binary candidates are selected using the observed period-color relation. Candidates are confirmed by visual examination of the light curves. To enhance the utility of this catalog, we derive a new J H period-color-luminosity relation and use this to estimate distances for the entire catalog. From these distance estimates we derive an estimated contact binary space density of 1:7 0:6 ð Þ ; 10 5 pc .

Stellar Photometric Variability Within the Central 4 pc of the Galactic Center with Infrared Image Subtraction

We present a catalog of 110 variable stars within ∼ 1 of Sgr A* based on image subtraction of near-infrared (H and K) photometry. Our images were obtained over 133 nights from 2000–2002 in H-band and over 134 nights from 2001–2002 in K-band; the typical FWHM is 1.4. We match the catalog to other near-infrared, X-ray, and radio (i.e., maser) data, and we discuss some of the more interesting obje...

The first catalog of chromospherically active and ellipsoidal variable stars in the OGLE database is presented. The periods, the observed magnitudes and colors, their values free of interstellar extinction, and Fourier coefficients of light modulation are given for 549 stars. New color–magnitude diagrams based on new color determinations are presented. The chro-mospherically active stars are al...

Astrometric Binaries in the Age of the Next Generation of Large (Space) Telescopes

I analyze several catalogs of known visual and spectroscopic binaries and conclude that a large number of binaries is missing in current catalogs. Samples of the best studied (nearby and bright) stars indicate that the true binary fraction may be as high as 95%. A preliminary analysis indicates that these binaries can affect the astrometry significantly. 1. Binarity: Past Present & Future Duque...

The University of New South Wales Extrasolar Planet Search : a catalogue of variable stars from fields observed 2004 – 2007

We present a new catalogue of variable stars compiled from data taken for the University of New South Wales Extrasolar Planet Search. From 2004 October to 2007 May, 25 target fields were each observed for 1–4 months, resulting in ∼ 87000 high precision light curves with 1600–4400 data points. We have extracted a total of 850 variable light curves, 659 of which do not have a counterpart in eithe...
